Hiriadka is a town near to the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. It is a small town with beautiful temples.  The meaning of Hiriadka is “Big Religious Place”. People of Hiriadka speak Kanada i.e. it is their official language. The village is spread over an area of about 2000sq kms. It is 16kms from Udupi, 20 km from Hebri, 27 kms from Karkala, 39 kms from Agumbe, 67 kms from Sringeri, 48 kms from Kundapur, 72 kms from Manglore, 214 kms from Hassan, 226 kms from Karwar, 166 kms from Chikkamagaluru, 131 kms from Shimoga, 300kms from Mysore and 397 kms little far way from Bangalore. So you can go there from which ever place suits you and is near to you. The nearest railway station and international airport is Udupi and Mangalore respectively. But if you are planning to enjoy your journey by bus then you can take direct buses from Udupi and Manipal as well. Hiriadka is between Udupi and Karkala.

Hiriadka also known as Periyadka, has a temple named Veerabhadra Adi Temple which is a sacred place devoteed to Veerabhadra, Brahma and Siri Daivas. Sri Virabhadra temple is one of the most famous temples of Hiriadka. The temple is situated 15 kms from Udupi and 24 kms from Karkala. It also attracts people because of the annual fair held every year very grandly. People from all over Udupi and Kannada come to enjoy this fair. In is held in the month of April-May i.e. during the summer.

Only from 3 miles away from Hiriadka there is a Matha called Moodu Matha. Laxmi Janardhana’s idol is present in the Matha to offer prayers. The Matha is about 700 years old. On Akhshaya Thrithiya day Kola is performed whole night. Before Kola, Ranga Pooja of the deity is performed. It is believed that people performing this Kola can separate their problems from themselves during Daiva Kalkuda

Saint Sri Madhvacharya founded eight Mathas popularly known as Astha Matha. One of Mathas known as Puttige Matha is only 1.5 km from Hiriadka. Swarna River somehow covers the whole Udupi district and is just 1 km from Hiriadka. The river has proved to be very useful time and again to the villagers especially in the times of droughts. A dam has been built and water is supplied to the whole Udupi district and Manipal cities.

Another temple is Mahalingeshwara temple. The idol present in the temple is that of goddess Raja Rajeshwari. Basti Sri Kalkuda, Sri Gampa Devi temple, Sri Gradi Temple are few temples near to Hiriadka.

Visit to Hiriadka is always referred when someone is going through bad times. Saint of Hiriadka says that people who come to pray in this temple gets solution for their every problem in return but you have to come to the shrine with a pure heart and should have respect for the tradition and culture of the temple. The Krishna temple which is the most famous temple of Udupi district of Karnataka is very near to this place. People have strong belief that God will take care of their livelihood. The place is also famous because of women folk.

Other than temples the village also has good and proper arrangements for education. The village has achieved 90 % of literacy rate. You can really enjoy trip to Hiriadka village.
