Kudlu Theertha Falls near Udupi
Located at a distance of about 42 kms from Udupil, the Kudlu Theertha Falls lies in the dense forest of the Western Ghats of India. The falls are known to originate from River Sita and be one of its first falls. The water of the falls plunges down from a breathtaking height of 300 feet. After its graceful fall the water is collected in a pond. People believe the pond to be holy and sacred and it is said that since ages sages and saints have been visiting the pond and choosing it as their place to pray for Moksha.
There is another water fall known just above the Kudlu Theertha called as Manga Theertha. The Manga Theertha is also known as the Monkey Theertha because you will find many mokeys here especially, on the path which leads inside the forest.
How to reach Kudlu Theertha FallsLocated in the forest of the Western Ghats one might not find reaching the falls much convenient as you might have to walk your walk to the falls through the forest. If you are a trekker, you are simply going to love your walk to the falls. It is almost a 30 minutes walk through the beautiful terrain. Most tourists grumble at the condition of the road through the hilly terrain but it is truly a trekker’s delight. There is a very delicate bridge you will come across which you need to cross. You will know your difficult walk has been absolutely worth it when you reach the falls and see it majestically flowing from a height of 300 feet. The soothing scene of the waterfalls cascading between huge mountains is surely going to take away your tiredness from walking as you grasp to take in all the beauty.
When and Why to Visit the Theertha FallsAs per the belief, sages have been coming to the spot since ages to meditate near the pond and so do tourists from various corners of the world come here to take in a moment of solace. The best time to visit the Theertha falls is during the monsoon and the winter season.
Proceed with Caution:Leeches!! Especially if you are visiting the place in the rainy season, be careful of leeches in the forest. It is advised to keep salt or lime with you.
Route:Between private and Govt. transport, choose your private vehicle because from where the public bus will drop you, you will have to walk an extra 1.5 km into the forest.
Hebri is the nearest bus station. You have to catch a bus to reach Nalikatte which deop you near Kudlu gate.
Nearest Railway Station: Udupi (32 kms from Hebri).
