Speciality of the Shri Keshava Natheshwara Temple

The temple is also known as Anantha Kshetra and it has more than 1000 years of history associated with it. It is believed that it was here where Lord Keshava resided and hence the place is named as Nagamangala. When you put across your first step in the temple you will see a Deepa Gamba welcoming you inside the temple and it is almost fifty five feet high. According to the history, it is said that bhagvan Ramanuja Charya performed the Prathistai of this Garuda Gamba. At one side of the temple you can find the Garuthaman. Seriya Thiruvadi gives darshan Kowpina Dari. Then you see the perfect view of the world famous seven tiers Raja Gopuram and it is from here that you are supposed to enter the temple by climbing up the steps. You are now in the vicinity of Lord Keshavas shrine.

History of the Shri Keshava Natheshwara Temple

As a inquisitive soul at heat you must be wondering how the temple got its name; when the lord is in his Krishna Avathara he performs Samhara of Rakshasa (the evil spirit) and it is because of this he got the name Keshava and so did the temple. Statue of Keshava holds a Shanku in his upper right hand and Chakra in the left upper hand, a Gadha is held on the left lower hand and Padma on the right hand. Neela Devi, Bhoo and Adhi Shesha are also there in the temple. Keshava statue is known to be six feet of height.

Architecture of Shri Keshava Natheshwara Temple

The temple is built in the form of Thrikutachala Style that represents the uniqueness of Hoysala Temples. The temple was built as a fusion of two world-renowned architectural styles; the inner sanctorum in the Hoysala style and the Gopurams in the Vijiyanagaram style built by the Vijiyanagaram kings. The major Santorum house has images of the Lord Krishna Rukmini and Satya Bhama. You will also find Sanskrit slokas engraved on the walls.

The left sanctum has images of Lakshmi Narasimha and one can see Swamiji sitting on Adhi Seshan. It is said that in the entire world you will not find a temple where Adhi sheesha is sitting Mandala Akara. This is the place where people come to get rid of their Naga or Sarpha Dosha. It is said to bless people who have problems like broken marriage, property loss, Rahu Kethu Dosha and many such problems.

Garuda Gamba is about 51 feet high and every year on Ugadi it Deepa Adhradhanam is performed with great devotion by the devotees. It is also called as the festival of lamps; Deepa Utsava. Devotees light lamps through Sarpani during this festival.

From Bangalore the temple is 135kms. From DHQ Mandaya to Shri Keshava Natheshwara Temple it’s about 35kms.

By Road
Nagamangala is connected to Bangalore and the Mysore Highway. To reach your destination you need to get down at Mandya and catch a bus to the temple.

By Rail
Nearest Railway station is Mandya, people can get down at Pandavapura. If you are starting from Mysore you can easily reach Nagmangala by bus.

By Air
Nearest Airport is Mysore.
