Brief History of Udupi

Udupi is a small town in south-west India state of Karnataka. Udupi got its name from Tulu named Odipu. It is renowned for its Krishna temple. It is also the native place of Vaishnavite Saint, Sri Madhvacharya (the founder of Krishna Mutt) in the 13th century. Udupi got its fame as land of pilgrimage.

Malpe Beach:
A fantastic picnic spot with a scenic view of nature, Malpe beach is located 6kms from Udupi. What seeks attention of people is the clear blue sky, the sand which seems like gold scattered all over and the palm trees covering the beach all around. Here you can enjoy boating as well.

Krishna Temple: The temple with worldwide fame and first pilgrimage center among seven other is Krishna temple. Just to catch the glimpse of lord Krishna people from different parts of world visit to the temple. Sri Madhvacharya founded the idol of lord Krishna in a large vessel of Gopichandana.

In the temple one can offer his praying through a window. The window is known as Navagraha Kitiki. The reason behind the name is because it has nine holes from where one can worship. The whole window is plated with silver. The deity was found facing towards Pashimabhimukha (Westside) as described in the Tantrasara Sangraha.

Mookambika Temple: The temple is named after goddess Mookambika. The goddess is in the form of Jyotirlinga contains Shiva and Shakti. The temple was renovated by the Keladi ruler. Other than the temple there are many shrines nearby which catch attention of people.

Udupi south Indian cuisines include culinary products and you can get wide range of such products in the market.
